Newcomer Counselling & Trauma Support

We use a trauma informed approach with newcomers to Canada.

Trauma responses show up in multiple ways, many of which are felt and experienced in the body. The trauma integration process involves identifying difficult memories and experiences, processing them gently and safely, and making connections with how they are impacting the client’s life today. This is especially true for our newcomers who have potentially experienced traumas and other difficulties in their journey to Canada.

Integrating all of life’s experiences is central to a person’s wellbeing. Processing what has happened allows people to move forward in healthy and meaningful ways.

Our Registered Counselling Therapist, Maxine Roberts has extensive experience working with newcomers and refugees. Maxine counsels from a trauma-trained lens, using a strengths-based, integrative approach incorporating solution-focused as well as other supportive strategies. Using a collaborative approach with community service-provider organizations and resources,  Maxine provides hope-filled support to newcomer clients and families, as they navigate and adjust to the many changes that come along with starting a new life in Canada.
