Educational Assessments
A comprehensive psycho-educational assessment helps to determine if your child has a learning disorder (dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia) or other issues related to cognition or processing that are impacting learning.
A psycho-educational assessment is comprised of a number of components.
Typical assessments in this practice include the following:
A parent interview to collect relevant developmental and school history
A cognitive measure or IQ test (ones that are culturally and linguistically sensitive, as well as appropriate for use with physical limitations)
A measure of academic achievement to help determine reading, writing and math skills
Memory assessment
Additional formal and informal tests might also be used to determine academic skills (e.g., phonological processing, other measures of writing/spelling ability)
A measure of visual-motor coordination
A review of school information and report cards
A telephone interview with your child’s teacher
Measures of emotional and behavioural functioning (if necessary, can be completed online)
Measures of attention and executive functioning (if necessary, can be completed online)
We are accepting new referrals for assessments!
As of June 2023, new Psychologists have joined our team and are accepting referrals for both School Age and Post Secondary Educational Assessments.
When you call for an assessment intake, we will immediately schedule your appointment(s) for the assessment.
How long does an assessment take?
A psycho-educational assessment is usually completed over the course of two or three days totalling approximately 4-6 hours. Breaking the assessment into separate days helps to ensure the assessment experience is not stressful for your child. Individuals who are older can request to have the assessment completed in one day.
Parents/guardians will be contacted to review assessment results within 2-3 weeks of the assessment being completed. The process of scoring, interpreting, and report writing can be longer or shorter depending on the complexity of the assessment. Please consult your psychologist directly to determine an exact timeline.
